Kerala, blessed with a 590 km long coastline along the Arabian Sea, is home to one major port at Cochin and 17 notified non-major ports that fall under the administrative control of the Government of Kerala. To ensure effective governance and development, the Kerala Maritime Board (KMB) was established under the KMB Act of 2017, empowering it to oversee the administration, regulation, and promotion of these non-major ports.
The vision is to harness the vast and largely untapped potential of Kerala’s coastline for the sustainable growth of maritime trade and the shipping industry. In close collaboration with coastal communities and key stakeholders, the government aims to develop a comprehensive policy framework that fosters integrated and eco-friendly coastal development.
By encouraging entrepreneurial participation and investment in a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable manner, Kerala aspires to transform its coastal belt into a dynamic hub of maritime activity—making the state one of the most preferred destinations for global maritime trade and development.
